Creative systems beat one-off campaigns

Distinctiveness compounds when it is systematised. Here is how to build a creative system your team can actually produce against at volume.

A campaign that looks unlike your last campaign is not bravery, it is amnesia. Recognition is built through repetition of distinctive assets, and repetition is only sustainable when the assets are defined well enough to be reused without a designer reinventing them.

Define the non-negotiables

Every strong system has a small number of fixed elements — a typographic voice, a colour behaviour, a photographic or illustrative treatment, a motion signature — and generous freedom everywhere else.

Getting that ratio right is the difference between a system that is used and a system that is quietly ignored.

Build for the people producing at volume

The test of a creative system is not the launch deck. It is whether a junior designer, three months later, can produce a social asset that looks unmistakably like you without asking anyone for permission.
